Art History

College of Architecture, Arts, and Design

Art History is a Humanities discipline that examines the forms, context, and meaning of visual and material culture throughout history as part of the cultural record of human achievement. The Art History minor provides a framework to analyze and understand the visual world around us, emphasizing skills in visual literacy, close looking, writing, and critical thinking that complement any major. The minor consists of 18 hours (6 classes) of courses that introduce students to the study of the visual arts through basic approaches to the field. The 18 hours are distributed among 2 Survey of Art History courses (ART 2385 and ART 2386), 2 elective Art History period courses at the 3000 level, and 2 Special Topics in Art History courses at the 4000 level.
